Silent Reading

It’s time to read. Try reading the first three paragraphs quickly and silently.

• If a word is hard, go on to the next word.
  
  
• Re-read what you just read. Try re-reading slowly and silently. Don’t be afraid to re-read!

Reading Out Loud

Now, try reading the first paragraph out loud. Read slowly.

• If a word is hard, go on to the next word.
  
  
• When you’ve read the paragraph, ask yourself, “What is this paragraph about?”
  
  
• Answer this question out loud.
  
  
• If it’s hard to answer this question, look at the first and last sentences one more time.

Use these same steps when you read the second and third paragraphs.

Re-reading out loud will improve your reading skills.
